Originally from Denver, Dr. Hamman graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY with a Bachelor of Arts in biology. He returned home to Colorado for medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.
Dr. Hamman then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. During residency his interest in ACL reconstruction led him to co-author book chapters on allograft tissue techniques. He was granted the resident research award for work on clavicle fracture fixation constructs. At Stanford he gained interest in arthroscopy and sports medicine that led him to pursue further fellowship training.
He then returned to Denver where he completed a fellowship at the Steadman – Hawkins Clinic in orthopedic sports medicine. During that time he contributed to the care of athletes from the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
His research interests include the biomechanics of fracture fixation, as well as knee and elbow injuries in elite athletes. He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS) and a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young twin children, as well as hiking, camping, skiing and playing golf.
